Chap Chap Snacks at TIFF 2025

Celebrating Stories, Culture, and Connection

by Chap Chap Snacks

At Chap Chap Snacks, we believe food is more than nourishment—it’s a way to spark joy, create connections, and honor the stories that shape us. That’s why we were proud to sponsor the event organized by M.I.C.R.O. (le Mouvement pour l’Inclusion des Communautés Racisées de l’Ontario), dedicated to celebrating the centenary of Frantz Fanon—psychiatrist, revolutionary thinker, and one of the most powerful voices in anticolonial thought.

About the Event

Building on the success of last year’s TIFF 2024, where filmmaker Bénita Jacques presented « L’Afrique, berceau de l’humanité et des civilisations modernes », M.I.C.R.O. returned on September 12, 2025 with another groundbreaking cinematic moment.

The feature film “Fanon”, directed by Jean-Claude Barny, brought Fanon’s life and intellectual legacy to the big screen. The screening was not only a tribute to a historical figure but also an urgent reminder of how his ideas resonate in today’s world.

As M.I.C.R.O. emphasized, this initiative responds to key needs:

  • Making Fanon’s work accessible to a wider audience, especially francophone communities.

  • Creating spaces for dialogue and learning about overlooked histories.

  • Showcasing Afrodescendant artists on global cultural platforms.

  • Bridging cinema, education, and social engagement.

Beyond the Screen

On September 13, a masterclass with director Jean-Claude Barny offered deeper reflection. The discussion covered the film’s genesis, Fanon’s relevance in contemporary struggles, and the ways cinema can confront colonial legacies and structural racism. It was a powerful space for education, exchange, and inspiration.

Why It Matters to Us

For Chap Chap Snacks, supporting this initiative is a way to stand behind values we deeply believe in: celebrating diverse cultures, amplifying overlooked stories, and creating moments of connection. Just as our cashew nut butters, chocolates, and hibiscus jams bring together traditions from Côte d’Ivoire to Canada, events like this remind us that cultural fusion is a force for learning, healing, and joy.

We are honored to have been part of this historic celebration and look forward to continuing to support spaces where food, art, and community meet.
